About

HELLO FROM LANCASHIRE
Welcome to Withnell.  We make beautiful quality clothing woven with stories of Lancashire, family and heritage.

Proudly  based  in the North West of England, Withnell is  at the foot of the beautiful Pennine Moors in Lancashire. This is where  I (Paula)  create  premium handcrafted clothing one by one, using a soft tonal palette of colours inspired by the wild landscape and enriched with subtle details.

An  honest approach to design for simplicity and versatility drives Withnell.  Investing in pieces that are made for life is what I do.  Working with the characteristics of natural fabrics and incorporating details that you may not appreciate until after you buy, I create garments to be loved and to develop with you.
Each piece is  meticulously hand cut, sewn, and packed  to ensure a high quality finish.  The very little waste that we have is repurposed into accessories or other projects.

SLOW LIVING

Conscious clothing is what Withnell is about and taking our responsibility seriously.  Slow in the processes that go on in the studio, hand making all of our garments.  Slow in the carefully considered decisions about which fabrics, threads and trims to use.  Slow in the honest approach to design for simplicity and  timeless comfort.

THE NAME

Withnell is the old parish name for the  cluster of villages  where we are based. Meaning  'the hill where willow trees grow'  Withnell has been a settlement since Saxon times. Strategically situated to view the Ribble estuary and any potential threats.

The history of the place, family  and the people of Withnell are intricately woven into the story and the stitching of every unique garment.
